Regular Meeting of the Board of Education

July 13, 2010

The Hicksville Exempted Village School Board of Education met in regular session on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room. The meeting was opened by President, Karen Schmidt, with the following Board members answering roll call: Stephanie Mazur, John McCalla, Karen Schmidt, David Schooley, and Dennis Vetter.

Dennis Vetter moved and Stephanie Mazur seconded the motion to approve the following consent agenda:

1. Minutes from the June 14, 2010 regular board meeting and special meetings held June 29, 2010, July 2, 2010, July 7, 2010, July 8, 2010, and July 12, 2010.
2. Treasurer’s Report

1. Cash Reconciliation as of June 2010.
2. Financial Statements for June 2010.

1. Accept the following donations:

$ 50.00 from Debi Guilford to the Wrestling Fund

Donation of mulch from Crook Miller Company for Hicksville Elementary School Land Lab – Value $200.00

Donation of digging outdoor classroom and bird feeder sites from Ewings Landscaping for Hicksville Elementary School Land Lab – Value $300.00

2. Approve supplemental contracts for the 2010-2011 school year to the following:

Dave Blue – Athletic Director

Paul Overmyer – Assistant Athletic Director

Jeff Haught – Ticket Manager

1. Advance Jennifer Hopps to the MA level on the salary schedule beginning the 2010-2011 school year.
2. Advance Nichole Retcher to the MA level on the salary schedule beginning the 2010-2011 school year.
3. Approve twelve (12) weeks FMLA for Melinda Trzynka beginning with the 2010-2011 school year and then parental leave for the rest of the first semester. She will return the second semester to complete the 2011 school year.
4. Approve the following high school staff for an ACT Review that was held June 9, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at a rate of $56.67. All costs were covered by student fees.

1. Approve Ryan Long as Color Guard Advisor for the 2010-2011 school year. Combine salary of Flag Advisor and Majorette Advisor for salary of $1349.00.
2. Approve Cody Groves as Percussion Advisor for the 2010-2011 school year using the Show Choir salary of $643.00.
3. Extend a one-year contract to Jessica (Steele) Manz as the Speech Telepractice Aide for the 2010-2011 school year at a rate of $14.47 per hour. All costs to be reimbursed by Bowling Green State University as part of Hicksville’s involvement in the 2-year speech telepractice pilot project.
4. Approve membership in the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy for 2010-2011 at a total cost of $517.50 (ADM of 1,035 x .50 ea.).
5. Approve participation in the National School Lunch Program for the 2010-2011 school year.
6. Approve the following breakfast/lunch prices for the 2010-2011school year:

Elementary Breakfast - $1.00

Elementary Lunch - $1.75

MS/HS Breakfast - $1.15

MS/HS Lunch - $2.00

Adult Lunch - $2.75

Extra Milk - $.35

1. Approve the MS/HS Handbook for the 2010-2011 school year.
2. Approve the MS/HS Staff Handbook for the 2010-2011 school year.
3. Approve MS/HS School Fees for the 2010-2011 school year based on classes scheduled.
4. Approve the 2010-2011 Athletic Ticket Price list.
5. Approve the Credit Flexibility Option (CFO) for high school students in grades 9 thru 12.
6. Approve the following Athletic Department issues for the 2010-2011 school year:

• Involvement in OHSAA regular season and tournament events for swimming/diving at no cost to the school district;
• Involvement in indoor track events at no cost to the school district;
• Assistance for the golf team for a maximum of 30 hours at $11.39 per hour (base aide rate), so that golf coach Jeff Haught can attend girls-only golf meets as a step in officially establishing a girls’ golf program at Hicksville High School.

Dave Schooley moved and John McCalla seconded the motion to extend recognition and congratulations to the administrative team and staff of Hicksville High School for being selected to receive the designation of High Schools that Work Pacesetter

School – the second consecutive such designation for Hicksville High School. HSTW Pacesetter Schools are recommended as models to other schools interested in seeing the HSTW design in action. Hicksville is one of 7 Ohio sites to earn this honor out of over 200 sites in the state and one of 62 sites recognized nationwide out of over 1,200 HSTW high schools and career centers in the nation.

John McCalla moved and Stephanie Mazur seconded the motion to employ Kelsey Schmidt as high school summer office worker for August 2010 for a maximum of 60 hours at minimum wage.

Roll call: Ayes - Stephanie Mazur, John McCalla, David Schooley, Dennis Vetter.

Karen Schmidt abstained.

John McCalla moved and Stephanie Mazur seconded the motion to approve a three (3) year contract as Superintendent to Jesse Steiner commencing August 1, 2010 and ending July 31, 2013.

Roll call: Ayes - Stephanie Mazur, John McCalla, Karen Schmidt, David Schooley, Dennis Vetter.

Upon motion properly moved, the meeting adjourned. The next regular meeting will be Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room.
