HEALTH CURRENT EVENTS ASSIGNMENT
• Use a magazine, or a news paper as a resource for this assignment.
• Find a current article (must be dated 2011 or 2012) on some health topic or issue.
•Make a copy of the article, or tear it out of the news paper
• Read the article.
• Write a 1/2 page or so paraphrasing the article. Paraphrase means: use your own words.
• At the bottom, cite the source you used. (MLA style is not needed. Cite the title, source, and date).
•Give a 1 minute presentation over your article
•Turn in the article and your paraphrased work
• Prepare for a one minute presentation in front of the class. Tell us the title, your source, the date, and about the article.
• Your grade will be 50% from your paragraph and 50% from your presentation.

Remember that we have talked about wellness. To achieve wellness a person must be the best they can be in the six areas we talked about (physical, emotional, social, mental, spiritual, and environmental health).

-Read the introduction. Then take the survey. Anywhere that the survey refers to "job", you should think school... right now being a student is your job. When is asks about financial information - think of you current family financial situation.
-When you are done taking the survey, it will give you results rating your life. It will rate mind, body, spirit, friends/family, love, and finance...... these are very closely related to the six areas that we studied. It will then give you a summary (general overall statement about your life score). Below that it will give you an analysis of the six different areas.
YOU WILL WANT TO PRINT THIS SUMMARY OR COPY AND PAST IT ONTO A DOCUMENT AND SAVE IT ON YOUR COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!
-Assignment: write a one page summary of the information given to you. In your summary, you should PARAPHRASE the information that is given. Be sure to include a general statement about your over all health. Be sure to include each of the 6 areas in your summary. Be sure to talk about areas that need improved and what you could do to improve them. If no improvement is needed... include a that in your summary.

Pick a long term goal (make sure the goal meets the "Six suggestions for setting goals" on page 39-40). Make an action plan that shows how your are going to reach this goal. Include short term goals and actions that will lead you to your goal. Make sure your action plan is very detailed and leads you to the completion of your goal. Include as many action plan steps as it will take to reach the goal. At the end, tell how you will reward yourself.

•Go open your paper. Select and copy your entire paper. Then paste it in the box.
•Go to and click "Portfolio"
•Under "Actions" click on "Show details" This will give you the percentage of plagiarism that is occurring in your paper, and it will give you a green, yellow, or red bar.
•If you want to see what parts of your paper is plagiarized: click on the"% number". Your paper will pop up and the plagiarized parts will be highlighted.
